HS Basketball Results Plus It’s Cowboys Packers Sunday

Paris – An icy weekend was highlighted by a Lamar County Showdown, where the Prairiland Patriot basketball notched a district win over the Chisum Mustangs 56-44. Mason Rickman led Prairiland with 21 points. The Lady Patriots completed the sweep at the varsity level, beating the Lady Mustangs 53-47. Meanwhile, the North Lamar and Paris girls drop their district openers in close games. The Pantherette’s fall to Pleasant Grove 55-42. The Lady Cats were edged out by Liberty Eylau 66-63.

Mount Pleasant – An icy weekend was highlighted by success on the hardwood for area basketball teams. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers improve to 3-0 after defeating Marshall 57-52. The Lady Tigers dismantle the Lady Mavs 69-28. Sakaria Grant led the way with 15 points. The 20th ranked Mt. Vernon Tigers remain unbeaten after taking down Winnsboro 78-57, improving to 3-0 in district play. The 9th ranked Mt. Vernon girls are 4-0 as well, beating the Lady Raiders on Friday 55-41. Chapel Hill basketball had the weekend off. They’ll meet the Mt. Vernon tomorrow night at Chapel Hill high school.

Sulphur Springs – An icy weekend was highlighted by success on the hardwood for area basketball teams. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats continue their march to the playoffs, beating Texas High 51-43 and improving to 3-0 in district play. The Lady Cats are 5-0 and in first place after a 50-42 win over the Texarkana Lady Tigers. The 20th ranked Mt. Vernon Tigers remain unbeaten after taking down Winnsboro 78-57, improving to 3-0 in district play. The 9th ranked Mt. Vernon girls are 4-0 as well, beating the Lady Raiders on Friday 55-41. Mt. Vernon basketball will take on Chapel Hill tomorrow on the road.

On Saturday evening the Dallas Mavericks fall to the Atlanta Hawks 97-82. Harrison Barnes led the Mavs with 21 points. Dallas falls to 11-26 on the season, tied with Minnesota for last in the Western Conference. The Mavs are back in action tonight on the road against the Timberwolves. Tip off this evening is at 7pm.

The Dallas Cowboys learned their opponent for the divisional round of the NFL playoffs this weekend after the Green Bay Packers throttled the New York Giants 38-13. Dallas and Green Bay will square off Sunday evening at 3:40 [on 101.9 KBUS.] The Houston Texans beat Oakland 27-14 and take on New England while Pittsburgh blasted Miami 38-13 and will be up against Kansas City next. And Seattle beat Detroit 26-6 and faces Atlanta.

And tonight, in a rematch of last years National Championship, the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide take on number 2 Clemson for the NCAA football title. Alabama knocked out Washington in the semi-finals, while Clemson demolished Ohio State to set up tonight’s game. Kickoff this evening is at 7.
