HS Basketball Tournament Results Plus Cowboys Win Streak Over

Paris – Area basketball teams were in tournament action over the weekend. The Paris Wildcats win the consolation bracket at the New Boston tournament, beating Daingerfield Saturday afternoon 62-36. The Wildcats are back at home tomorrow night against Sulphur Springs. In a Red River Valley match up the Prairiland Patriots defeat Roxton 70-31. And the North Lamar Panthers win a pair at the Wills Point tournament, including a 41-30 win over Venus.

Mount Pleasant – Area basketball teams were in tournament action over the weekend. The 8th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils picked up four wins including a 75-20 victory over Arp. The Lady Devils begin district competition tomorrow night against Como-Pickton. The Chapel Hill boys played their traditional alumni game with the 2016-2017 Red Devils beating 67-48. The 18th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers picked up a win over Jefferson at the Union Grove tournament Saturday night 76-49 while the Lady Tigers win over Gilmer 47-39.

Sulphur Springs – Area basketball teams were in tournament action over the weekend. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats were crowned champions at the Central Heights tournament, defeating Peaster in the championship game 55-44. The Wildcats return to the court tomorrow night when they visit the Paris Wildcats. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats also capture a tournament title, winning the Edgewood title game 45-24 over Campbell. Sulphur Springs girls basketball visits Greenville tomorrow.

Last night the Dallas Cowboys fall to the New York Giants in a defensive struggle 10-7. Despite Zeke Elliott going for over 100 yards on the ground and 18 tackles from linebacker Sean Lee, the Cowboys fall to 11-2 on the season, their first defeat since losing to the Giants in week 1. Dallas remains at the top of the NFC East and can clinch a first round bye this Sunday night against Tampa Bay.

While the Cowboys 11 game streak was snapped, the Dallas Mavericks had a one game streak stopped, falling to Houston 109-87. Wesley Matthews dropped in a team high 26 points for the Mavs while Harrison Barnes added 20. Dallas, at 5-18 have the leagues worst record and host the Nuggets tonight at the American Airline Center. Tip off is at 7:30.

And on Saturday, the Heisman trophy awarded to the nations most outstanding player goes to Louisville quarterback, Lamar Jackson. The sophomore had nearly 5,000 yards of total offense and 51 total touchdowns on the season. Clemson Tiger quarterback, Deshaun Watson finished 2nd in the voting.
