HS Hoop Playoff Results Plus MLB Approves New Rule

Paris – It was a big night for playoff bound Red River Valley Hoops teams. The 14th ranked Paris Wildcats get revenge over the Van Vandals 63-42. Paris will take on Tyler Chapel Hill in the Area round. The Prairiland Patriots notch a bi-district title, beating Queen City 53-42. Next, they’ll play Elysian Fields. 4th ranked Clarksville makes light work out of Gary, 66-23. They’ll meet fellow 2A power house, Martins Mill in round 2 on Saturday at Paris High School, tipping off at 7pm. And the Rivercrest Rebels take on Celeste this weekend after defeating Union Grove 74-57. Meanwhile, the North Lamar Panthers watch their season end at the hands of Brownsboro 61-48. And the Honey Grove Lady Warriors come up short against top ranked Martins Mill 60-46.

Mount Pleasant – The boys and girls playoffs were a big success last night for area basketball teams. The 24th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers use a 17-4 run in the 4th quarter to edge out Lovejoy 54-50. The Tigers will take on 19th ranked McKinney North in the Area round. The game is set for Friday night at 7pm at Paris High School. The Chapel Hill Red Devils beat Paul Pewitt 59-49. The Red Devils will be up against White Oak in the Area round. Meanwhile, the 11th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils watch their season come to an end in the regional quarterfinals at the hands of district rival Winnsboro 36-34. The Lady Raiders advance to the 3A Region 2 Tournament this weekend at Rockwall Heath. And the Mt. Vernon Tigers flex their muscles, dismantling New Boston 90-51. The Purple Tigers Area round opponent will be 24th ranked Jefferson.

Sulphur Springs – The boys and girls playoffs were a big success last night for area basketball teams. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats take down the North Forney Falcons 55-50 to advance to the area round. Their next opponent this weekend will be Carrolton Creekview. The Mt. Vernon Tigers dismantle the New Boston Lions 90-51. With the win, the Purple Tigers advance to round 2, where they’ll meet up with 24th ranked Jefferson. The Lady Tigers won on Monday, advancing to this weekends class 3A Region 2 tournament at Rockwall Heath. The Mt. Vernon girls play Pottsboro at 8pm. And in a 13-3A Rivalry, the 14th ranked Winnsboro Lady Raiders edge out the 11th ranked Chapel Hill Lady Devils 36-34. The Lady Raiders will also be at Rockwall ISD this Friday night. They’ll play their regional semi-final against Alba-Golden at 6.

In the NBA, the Utah Jazz have are in trade talks with the Dallas Mavericks regarding point guard Deron Williams. As of last night, no deal was final, but the Jazz have expressed interest in bringing Williams back to the team that originally drafted him. The Mavs are also open to dealing center Andrew Bogut. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 2pm.

And a new rule has been solidified in Major League Baseball. In an attempt to speed up the game, the league approved a new intentional walk rule. Rather than throwing four pitches purposely off the plate, teams will now simply give a signal from the dugout to the home plate umpire, sending the batter to first base.
