Paris – Red River Valley basketball teams began tournament action yesterday and will play through Saturday. Highlighting the weekend, the Prairiland Patriots will host their tournament at Patriot Gym. Prairiland sweeps Roxton with the Patriots boys winning 59-37 and the girls 68-29. Chisum beat Detroit 49-40. The 20th ranked Paris Wildcats beat Athens 90-75 at the Van tournament. North Lamar falls to Azle 33-29 at the Bowie tournament. Tonight the Honey Grove Lady Warriors are 3-2 on the season and take on Miller Grove and the 5th ranked Clarksville Tigers host Pleasant Grove at 6pm.
Mount Pleasant – Area basketball teams will be in tournament action starting today and will play through Saturday. The 20th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers fall for the first time this season to Richland 71-70 at the Northeast Lions Club Tournament. The Lady Tigers dismantle Community 65-20 in Royse City. The Chapel Hill Red Devils beat Rivercrest 56-31 in the opening round of the Prairiland tournament. The 8th ranked Chapel Hill girls take on Arp on today at 1pm as the tournament host at Chapel Hill high school. 7th ranked Mt. Vernon girls defeat Naaman Forest 67-60 to open the Winnsboro Hoopfest, while the Mt. Vernon boys take on Union Grove on Saturday at the American Airline Center in Dallas.
Sulphur Springs – Area basketball teams will be in tournament action starting this morning. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are off to a 5-0 start after a win over Anna to start the Royse City tournament 91-57. Today the Wildcats take on Lufkin at 8:30am. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats beat Longview at the Winnsboro Hoop Fest 42-38. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers win over Naaman Forest 67-60. North Hopkins will be at the Prairiland tournament and the Mt. Vernon varsity boys will take on Union Grove on Saturday at the American Airline Center. Tip off is at 2pm.
Last night the Dallas Cowboys escape Minnesota with a win, 17-5 over the Vikings. Ezekiel Elliott had over 100 total yards and a touchdown to lead Dallas to their 11th straight win. At 11-1, the Cowboys can clinch a playoff spot with a Washington or Tampa Bay loss as they maintain the best record in the NFL for another week.
While the Dallas Cowboys win, the Mavericks and Stars continue their struggles. The Mavs have now lost 10 of 11 after losing to Charlotte last night 87-97. They’ll take the night off tonight before hosting Dwyane Wade and the Chicago Bulls Saturday night, following the Mt. Vernon and Union Grove varsity boys. Tip off between the Mavs and Bulls tomorrow is at 7:30.
Meanwhile, the Stars get blown out against Pittsburgh 6-2. Dallas is now 9-10-6 on the ice with 24 points, fifth in the Central Division standings.
