HS Hoops Plus Garrett Honored

Paris – District high school hoops will be on the air tonight. The North Lamar Panthers tip off with the Pittsburg Pirates on MIX 107.7, while the Pantherette’s are off to a hot 3-1 start in district play at they face the Lady Pirates. The 16th ranked Paris Wildcats welcome the Atlanta Rabbits to Wildcat Gym on 101.9 KBUS. The Lady Cats host the Lady Rabbits. Girls games tip off at 6pm. The boys at 7:30. In other area action, the Prairiland Patriots travel to take on Winnsboro. And ranked number 4 out of class 2A the Clarksville Tigers travel to McLeod, where the two unbeaten teams in district 15-2A look to make a statement.

Mount Pleasant – The Mt. Pleasant Tiger soccer team began the Lufkin Tournament yesterday, taking down New Caney 9-nil. They’ll be up against Beaumont this morning at 9 and play Lufkin tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.

The state ranked Chapel Hill Red Devil and Lady Devil basketball teams are back home tonight as they welcome in Cooper. At 5-2, the 14th ranked Lady Devils tip off with the Dogette’s at 6pm. The 5-0, 24th ranked Chapel Hill boys will follow. Mt. Vernon will also be at home to host Como-Pickton. The Lady Tigers are 6-0 and ranked 7th in the state. The Mt. Vernon boys are 4-1. The Pittsburg Pirates and Lady Pirates will be on the road visiting North Lamar.

Sulphur Springs – Area high school basketball teams continue their march to the post season. At 7-0 and ranked 20th in class 5A, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats look to stay at the top district 16-5A when they travel to Hallsville. The Sulphur Springs boys are in 2nd place at 5-1. They’ll host the Bobcats at Wildcat Gym. Both games tip off at 7:30. Mt. Vernon will also be at home to host Como-Pickton. The Lady Tigers are 6-0 and ranked 7th in the state. The Mt. Vernon boys are 4-1. Saltillo is 2-0 early in district play. They’ll tip off with Roxton tonight at 7:30 as well.

Last night the Dallas Mavericks fell to the Miami Heat 99-95. Dirk lead the way in the loss with 19 points while Harrison Barnes added 15 and seven rebounds. The Mavs fall to 14-28 on the season and remain at the bottom of the Southwest Division standings. Dallas will take on the Utah Jazz tonight at 7:30.

The Dallas Stars also didn’t fare so well last night, getting shut out at the hands of the New York Islanders 3-0. The Stars, unable to add to their 46 point total on the season, will be up against Alex Ovechkin and the Metropolitan leading Washington Capitals tomorrow night at the American Airline Center. Puck drop is at 7.

And the accolades continue to pile up for the Dallas Cowboys. To add to five pro bowlers, four all-pro selections, two offensive all-rookie selections and the offensive rookie of the year, Dallas Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett, has been named Coach of the Year in the NFL by the Pro Football Writers Association.
