HS Hoops Plus No. 24 PJC Picks Up Home Win

Area high school basketball teams played their make up games last night.
Paris – The Paris Wildcats and Lady Cats were edged out by Pleasant Grove with the boys falling in overtime, 60-55, while the girls come up short, 63-59. The Chisum Mustangs and Lady Mustangs felt the wrath of Mt. Vernon with the Tigers winning 70-21 and the Lady Tigers 63-33. North Lamar has scheduled their game with Atlanta for tonight at Panther Gym.  The girls tip off at 4:30. The boys will follow.
Number 24 Paris Junior College defeats Navarro College 92-85 last night.
Mount Pleasant – The Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils flex their muscles over the Como-Pickton Eagles. The fourth-ranked Chapel Hill girls began the night with a 72-13 win to stay unbeaten in district play. The boys followed up by throttling an improved Como team, 64-16. The Mt Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers handle the Chisum Mustangs and Lady Mustangs in similar fashion with the Mt Vernon boys winning 70-21, while the Purple Lady Tigers notch a victory, 63-33. And the Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions sweep Miller Grove, 39-32 on the boy’s side and 50-29 for the Saltillo girls.
Sulphur Springs –  The Mt Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers handle the Chisum Mustangs and Lady Mustangs in similar fashion with the Mt Vernon boys winning 70-21, while the Purple Lady Tigers notch a victory, 63-33. And the Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions sweep Miller Grove, 39-32 on the boy’s side and 50-29 for the Saltillo girls.  Madison Simmons lead the way for the Saltillo Lady Lions with 33 points on the evening. Teams return to district action tomorrow night, including the Sulphur Springs Wildcats as they take on Hallsville.
It was upset city in college hoops last night as the SMU Mustangs take down 7th ranked Wichita State, 83-78 behind 33 points from Shake Milton. The Texas Longhorns beat eighth-ranked Texas Tech, 67-58.  Big man Mohamad Bamba recorded 15 points, 11 rebound double-double and added five blocked shots.
The Dallas Stars try to continue their steady pace tonight when they travel north of the border to face the Columbus Blue Jackets.  The Stars are the current occupants of a Wildcard spot in the Western Conference with 55 points on the season.  Columbus has also played well with 53 points.  Puck drop this evening is set for 6:00 pm.
And the Dallas Cowboys continue to shake up the coaching staff.  Dallas is expected to make Sanjay Lal the new Wide Receivers coach while Paul Alexander takes over as the team’s offensive line coach after spending the last 23 seasons as a top assistant for the Cincinnati Bengals. Dallas still has a number of coaching vacancies to fill, including quarterbacks, running backs, linebackers and tight ends coach should Steve Loney choose retirement.
