HS Hoops Results Plus Cowboys Clinch Playoff Spot

Paris – A pair of Red River Valley basketball teams came away as tournament champions over the weekend. The Prairiland Lady Patriots earn the crown as tournament host with a win over the Chisum Lady Mustangs 56-46. The Lady Patriots are unbeaten at 8-0 and travels to Clarksville tomorrow night while Chisum goes to Commerce. Both games tip off on Tuesday at 7pm. The 20th ranked Paris Wildcats crush Crandall in the title game at the Van tournament 77-43. Paris is 5-0 on the season and take on the 5A 20th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers tomorrow night at Wildcat Gym at 7:30. Tournament host Prairiland boys finished 2nd, falling in the title game to Chapel Hill 47-28.

Mount Pleasant – Area teams were in tournament action over the weekend in high school basketball. The Chapel Hill Red Devils took home the crown at the Prairiland tournament, defeating host Prairiland in the championship game 47-28. Meanwhile, the 8th ranked Lady Devils win the Chapel Hill tournament, defeating Alba-Golden 70-59 in the finals. The 20th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers finish 3rd at the Northeast Lions Club, beating Haltom City 63-53 in the consolation game. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers win two of three at the Winnsboro Hoop fest, and the Mt. Vernon boys defeat Union Grove 74-43 on Saturday at the American Airline Center

Sulphur Springs – Area teams were in tournament action over the weekend in high school basketball. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats defeated Anna and Lufkin a the Royse City tournament before falling to 13th ranked Dallas Skyline out of class 6A. The Wildcats finished the tournament winning the consolation bracket over Royse City 61-43 to finish 3rd. The Lady Cats won three of five games in the Winnsboro Hoop Fest, including wins over Longview, Whitehouse and tournament host Winnsboro. The 7th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers win two of three at the Winnsboro Hoop fest, and the Mt. Vernon boys defeat Union Grove 74-43 on Saturday at the American Airline Center.

The Dallas Mavericks took down the Chicago Bulls 107-82, in the Mavs best game of the season. Wesley Matthews led the way with 26 points. Dallas improves to 4-15 on the season and take on Charlotte tonight at 7:30.

The Cowboys may not have played yesterday, but they still lock up a playoff spot, thanks to a loss by Washington. At 11-1 the Cowboys can do no worse than a wildcard birth, however, they win the division this Sunday night when they take on the New York Giants.

And four teams have been selected to the college football playoffs. SEC Champion, Alabama, is the top ranked team, followed by ACC Champion Clemson. They’ll face number three Ohio State, while the Crimson Tide’s opponent will be Pac 12 champion Washington, checking in at number four.
