HS Hoops Results Plus Mavs Lose in Boston

Paris – Last night in the bi-district round of the high school girls basketball playoffs, the Prairiland Lady Patriots, Honey Grove Lady Warriors and Clarksville Lady Tigers advance to the Area round. The Lady Patriots beat district 14-3A Champion Queen City 55-51 and take on West Rusk\Harleton. Honey Grove dismantled North Hopkins 75-18. They’ll meet the Clarksville Lady Tigers, who defeated Carlisle in double overtime 65-63. The North Lamar Pantherette’s season came to an end at the hands of Brownsboro 52-35.

The boys play their final district games tonight. The Paris Wildcats look to extend their district winning streak to 31 games when they face Pittsburg on the road. A win would give coach Billy Mack Steed his 500th career win. The North Lamar Panthers will be in Texarkana against Liberty Eylau. With a win, the Panthers secure the number four seed in the district. And with a playoff spot secured, the Prairiland Patriots host Winnsboro. Tip off to tonight’s games is at 7:30.

Mount Pleasant – Last night in the bi-district round of the high school girls basketball playoffs, the Chapel Hill Lady Devils throttle the New Boston Lady Lions 82-41. The Lady Devils take on White Oak\Harmony in the area round. The District 13-3A Champion Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers win big over the Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs 77-22. Their area round opponent will be Jefferson\Winona. Meanwhile, the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers season came to an end at the hands of Lovejoy last night 53-46. Tonight the Rivercrest Lady Rebels take on Hawkins at Mt. Vernon high school. Tip off is at 7:30.

The boys wrap up district play tonight before the playoffs begin next week. 16-5A Champion, Mt. Pleasant will be on the road at Greenville, hoping to finish a perfect district season at 12-0. It’s a race to the 13-3A Title as the Chapel Hill Red Devils and Mt. Vernon Tigers are both 10-1 going into tonight’s game. Chapel Hill will be at Cooper. Mt. Vernon is at Como-Pickton. If both teams win they’ll be named co-district champions and will need a coin flip or seeding playoff game to determine the number one and two seed. Tip off to tonight’s games is at 7:30.

Sulphur Springs – Last night in the bi-district round of the high school girls basketball playoffs, the district 13-3A champion Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers dismantle Hughes Springs 77-22. With the win, Mt. Vernon advances to the Area round where they’ll take on Jefferson\Winona. Time and location are still to be determined. Meanwhile, 16-5A Champion, Sulphur Springs girls lead virtually the entire game, but fall in the final minute 46-43 at the hands of North Forney. The Lady Cats finish the season 26-4 overall and 12-0 in district. North Hopkins falls to Honey Grove as their season also ends, 75-18.

Last night the Dallas Mavericks lose to Boston 111-98. Four different Mavs scored at least 18 in the game, lead by Yogi Ferrell with 20. Dallas drops to 22-33 on the season and move three games back of a playoff spot in the West.

Pitchers and Catchers report tomorrow in Major League Baseball. The first full squad workout will be a week from today. And the first spring game will be Saturday the 25th at 2:05.

And history was made last night in women’s college basketball as the top ranked UCONN Huskies win their 100th consecutive game after beating South Carolina 66-55. The 100 game win streak is an NCAA record.
