HS Softball and Baseball Plus Gallo Homers Again For Rangers in Local Sports

Paris – High School baseball and softball action picked back up yesterday, beginning with an afternoon rivalry where the Prairiland Lady Patriots shut out the Chisum Lady Mustangs 4-0. The Lady Patriots are 1-1, while Chisum drops to 0-2. The Prairiland baseball team would mirror the performance of the girls, beating Chisum 7-1. The Patriots are 2-0 in district. And finally, the North Lamar Pantherette’s up district play at home with a dominating win over Liberty Eylau 12-1 in six innings. Bailee Nickerson hit two of the Pantherette’s four home runs on the day, including a walk off two run shot. North Lamar softball is 13-1 on the season.

Mount Pleasant – High School softball action picked back up yesterday, beginning with the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers dominating performance over Greenville 16-2. Overall, the Lady Tigers are 9-6-3 on the season and 3-0 in district 15-5A. Next up, they’ll host the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats, who defeated Texas High last night 8-4. First pitch on Friday night is at 6pm. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers matched Mt. Pleasant stride for stride, beating Linden Kildare by a 16-2 count as well. The Purple Lady Tigers get over the .500 hump at 12-11 and even theire district record at 1-1. Next they’ll play in Morris County against the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas on Friday night.

Sulphur Springs – High School Baseball and softball picked back up last night, beginning with the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats picking up a solid win 8-4 over district rival Texas High. Next up for the Lady Cats, they’ll take on interstate 30 rival Mt. Pleasant, who’s begun district play at 3-0. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6pm.

The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers also flexed their muscles yesterday, beating Linden Kildare by a 16-2 count. The Purple Lady Tigers get over the .500 hump at 12-11 and even theire district record at 1-1. Next they’ll play in Morris County against the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas on Friday night.

Last night in the NHL the Dallas Stars get crushed by the LA Kings 5-2. Alex Golagoski and Cody Eakin netted the lone goals for the Stars. With the outcome, Dallas remains with 91 points on the season, tied with St. Louis for the division lead, while the Kings are nipping at their heels with 89 points. Chicago has 88. The Stars return to the ice tomorrow night at the AAC against Tampa Bay. Puck drop is at 7:30.

Tonight the Dallas Mavericks take on LeBron James and the eastern conference leading Cleveland Cavaliers. The Mavs currently are tied for the 7th seed in the West with Houston. Both teams are 34-33 on the season, two and a half games up on 9th place Utah. Tip off tonight between the Mavs and Cavs is set for 6pm.

The Texas Rangers add another win in Cactus League Springs Training 5-4 over the Cleveland Indians. Joey Gallo hit his 3rd homer of the spring, while Prince Fielder hit his first. Martin Perez picked up the win on the mound.

And in NCAA March Madness Wichita State and Florida Gulf Coast reach the round of 64. Tonight the Holy Cross Crusaders and the Southern Jaguars battle it out for the 16 seed in the West region at 5:40 followed by the Michigan Wolverines against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane for the 11 seed in the East Region.
