HS Softball Honors and Football Camps Plus Rangers Bounce Back Vs A’s

With the softball season officially over, the 15-4A All-District team has been released. The district MVP is Kimmie Atienza of Pleasant Grove, while North Lamar Pantherette Junior Catcher, Bailee Nickerson, was named offensive MVP. Pantherette players landing on the all-district 1st team are pitcher Reagan Richardson, first baseman Lauren Hodges, second baseman Jaycie McEwin, short stop Madison Morrison, outfielder Bill Jones and designated player Summer Andrews. Third baseman Erin Scholl and outfielder McKayla Figueroa are 2nd team selections, while Brooke Collard is an honorable mention. Paris high short stop, Jenna Stallion is a 2nd team all-district selection.

Around 230 students athletes attended the first day of The Edge conditioning camp at Sulphur Springs High School. Over 150 of which were high school boys and girls, while 75 athletes will be attending middle school in the coming school year. The athletes were put through weight training, various drills, as well as plenty of running, including 6-100 yard dash’s. Middle school athletes will work out Monday through Thursday from 9:30-10:30am until June 30th. High School will be from 8-10am until July 21st. Athletes are encouraged to stay well hydrated and put plenty of protein back in their bodies after work outs.

Last night the Texas Rangers bounce back to beat the Oakland A’s 10-6. With the Rangers leading, the A’s were making a come back, until Elvis left the building with a solo homer in the eighth. With the win the Rangers are 40-25 on the season and have the best record in the American League. Texas and Oakland play game three of four tonight at O. Co Coliseum. First pitch [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 9:05pm Central Time.

Tomorrow night is game six of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. As the series stands, the Warriors lead three games to two and can clinch back to back titles Thursday evening. But they’ll have to do so against LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. James is leading both teams in points per game, assists, rebounds, steals and blocked shots. Tip off tomorrow night in Cleveland is set for 8pm.

The Dallas Cowboys will be without a couple of key pieces for the foreseeable future. Last year’s starting running back, Darren McFadden, underwent successful surgery on his right elbow after injuring it at his home memorial day weekend. Meanwhile, newly acquired defensive end Benson Mayowa will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee. Mayowa is expected to be back by the start of next month’s training camp. McFadden is expected to return to start the pre-season.

And in Copa America, Argentina takes down Bolivia 3-nil and did so largely without the services of Lionel Messi, who came off the bench. With the win, Argentina has clinched the top stop in Group D.
