HS Track Results Plus Mazara Leads Rangers to Victory

Paris – Area track and field athletes have advanced to participate in this weekend’s state meet in Austin. Baylee Chappell of North Lamar is the Class 4A Region 2 champion in the high jump. Clarksville earned several Class 2A Region 2 gold medals. Clashon Gaffney in the long jump. Tre Scales in the 200 meter dash. Keshon Moore in the 300 hurdles, as well as the Blue Tigers 4×200 relay team. Other State qualifiers include Trey Scudder of North Lamar, Quez Allen and Tierra Yates of Paris, and Lavonte Edwards of Clarksville. The meet will be May 14th at the University of Texas.

Mount Pleasant – It won’t be long until local softball teams play the area round of the post season while baseball teams begin the playoffs with the bi-district round. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers will take on Manfield Legacy in a three game series with all games to be played at Lindale High School. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 7pm. Game two is Saturday at 11am and game three will follow if necessary.

The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs will take on Van Alstyne.

Meanwhile, in baseball the Gilmer Buckeyes will take on the Paris Wildcats to open post season play. The two teams will meet this weekend for a three game series in Atlanta. Game one is Friday night at 6pm.

Sulphur Springs – It won’t be long until local softball teams play the area round of the post season, while baseball teams begin the playoffs with the bi-district round. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will take on Waxahachi in a one game playoff scheduled to be played at North Forney High School. The game will be Saturday night with first pitch at 6pm. The Lone Oak Lady Buffalos will take on the Redwater Lady Dragons. And the Commerce Lady Tigers will face off against the Hooks Lady Hornets.

Meanwhile, high school baseball playoff details are still in the works. The bi-district round will be from Thursday through Saturday.

Last night in Major League Baseball the Texas Rangers win game one of a four game set against the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1. With the game tied at one apiece it was the reigning American League Rookie of the Month giving Texas the lead. The Rangers are 15-11 to lead the AL West and have won five of their last six games. Texas and Toronto are back at it this evening [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm] with first pitch coming at 6:07pm Central time.

The Dallas Stars continue the Stanley Cup playoffs tonight with game three against the St. Louis Blues. As it stands currently the series is tied at one game apiece. Puck drop tonight in St. Louis between the Stars and Blues is scheduled for 8:30.

And one of the most unlikely season’s in sports is complete after Leicester City wins the English Premier League crown. After coming close to relegation only a year ago, Leicester were 5,000-1 odds to win the most notorious soccer league in in the World. Sriker Jamie Vardy was named Football of the Year.
