Area high school volleyball teams were in action last night.
Paris – The Prairiland Lady Patriots continue their impressive start to the season beating Whitewright in the fifth set.  The Paris Lady Cats were edged out at home in five sets at the hands of Leonard. North Lamar falls in straight sets to Texas High, 18-25, 14-25, and 17-25.
Mount Pleasant – The Mt Pleasant Lady Tigers won in straight sets on the road over the Liberty Eylau Lady Leopards, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-14. Shelbi Haupt, Maury Gholston, and Alexia Nance combine for 33 kills while Karen Mendoza contributed 14 digs. Blakely Cheek and Autumn Jackson dished out 30 assists. The Lady Tigers improve to 10-6 on the season. They’ll make the long trip to the Waco Robinson Tournament this weekend.
Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Wildcat Cross Country team is set to begin their season. Following an intrasquad qualifying run this past Saturday, Coach Ross Hicks will be taking his top eight boys and eight girl runners to the Greenhill Relay’s in Dallas this weekend.
Last night the Texas Rangers were pounded by AL West rival Los Angeles, 10-1. The lone Ranger run came on a sacrifice fly by short stop Elvis Andrus in the fifth inning. Angels slugger Albert Pujols hit a home run in the 7th inning, passing Sammy Sosa for most home runs all time by a foreign born player. The Rangers fall to three games back in the American League Wildcard race as they wrap up their series with the Angels tonight. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am] is set for 9:00 pm.
The Dallas Cowboys continue looking at just how they’ll fill the depth chart and stack the depth chart. Most noble this week has been the promotion of quarterback Cooper Rush. The Undrafted Rookie received snaps with the 2nd team offense for the second practice in a row yesterday, splitting time with the veteran backup, Kellen Moore.  Offensive lineman battling for the starting left guard spot, Chaz Green, left practice with a hip injury.
And a blockbuster trade went down last night in the NBA. A disgruntled Kyrie Irving was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics in exchange for 2x all-star Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, big man Ante Zizic and a 2018 1st round draft pick.
