Area volleyball continues tonight as North Lamar travels to Texarkana to face Pleasant Grove. Prairiland will be in Mt Vernon while Chisum hosts Commerce. Paris High has the night off.
Paris And North Lamar football will both be on the road this Friday. Paris will look to build on their impressive win over Melissa when they travel to Anna on 101.9 KBUS.
While North Lamar will be in Celina hoping to spoil their homecoming festivities. That game can be heard on Mix 107-7. Pregame for both is 6:00 pm.
For the second week in a row, The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team is ranked 21st according to the latest coaches’ poll released by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association. It is the fifth week in a row the Lions have been nationally ranked.
The National League Wild Card game will be tonight as the Rockies travel to Wrigley to play the Cubs. The American League Wild Card will be tomorrow in New York when the Yankees host the A’s.
The National League Central and Western Division Champs were crowned yesterday. In the early tiebreaker game, Milwaukee beat the Cubs 3-1, and in the late game, the Dodgers beat the Rockies 5-2. Colorado will now travel to Chicago for the National League Wildcard game at 7:00 pm tonight. The American League Wildcard game is Wednesday night, featuring the Oakland A’s at the NY Yankees at 7:00 pm on TBS.
In Monday Night Football it was another fine performance from Patrick Mahomes as the Chiefs beat the Broncos 27-23.
Ezekiel Elliott is nursing an ankle injury and bursitis in his knee, but Jason Garrett said the Cowboys are “optimistic he’ll practice and play this week.” Elliott played 53 out of 69 snaps with 25 carries for 152 yards and four catches for 88 yards. Elliott has played in 220 of 247 offensive snaps this season.
Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter erased all doubt surrounding his quarterback situation Monday by naming Jameis Winston the starter for the Bucs’ Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Ryan Fitzpatrick started against the Chicago Bears on Sunday but was pulled after the first half. Koetter hadn’t planned to make an in-game switch, but the Bucs were down by five touchdowns at halftime, and he felt it was important to get Winston some in-game reps after being away for three weeks due to suspension.
New Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid, wearing a black T-shirt with #IMWITHKAP on the front, made it clear his fight against social injustice isn’t over even though his return to the NFL came quicker than even he expected. Reid, 26, said “without a doubt” his collusion case against the NFL will continue. He also said he still is considering other ways to protest social injustice outside of taking a knee during the national anthem as he and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began doing in 2016.
