Hughes Springs Advances Plus Rangers Win Again In Seattle

 

The Hughes Springs lady Mustangs were shut out for six innings before coming alive in the top of the 7th to tie their semifinal contest with Grandview. Pearl Perry started things off with a home run to left centerfield. Hughes Springs held off the Lady Zebras in the bottom of the 7th to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 8th, the Lady Mustangs loaded the bases with two outs. Up to the plate comes Peyton Blythe, and powers a three-run double to left centerfield to put the Lady Mustangs ahead for good, 5-2. They will now battle Santa Gertrudis Academy for the 3A State Championship Thursday evening at 6:00 pm in Austin. The game will be broadcast on STAR 96.9 and starcountry969.com

Longtime  Sulphur Springs Wildcat’s football defensive coordinator Triston Abron will be the new head football coach and Athletic Director at Paul Pewitt. Abron, resigned from Sulphur Springs ISD Wednesday. He is also a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School.

A Tennessee judge issued a $20 million bond Wednesday for the ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright in his shooting death nearly eight years ago. Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Lee Coffee said his decision to give Sherra Wright such a high bond was partly driven by her bad behavior while being held at a women’s jail on murder and attempted murder charges in her ex-husband’s slaying.

Introducing Dr. Justin James Watt. The Houston Texans defensive end now has a new title after he received an honorary doctorate from the Baylor College of Medicine on Tuesday. J.J. Watt is putting his new degree to use right away by handing out prescriptions to his Texans teammates and coaches. “He wrote me up a prescription this morning,” Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said. “He told me to take three chill pills a day and call him in the morning. I thought I’ve been more chilled out, but I guess he doesn’t think so.”
