Improvements Coming to NE Texas Trail in Roxton and Blossom

Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that a project to improve the Northeast Texas Trail at two locations in Lamar County began this week.

The contractor, Encino Landscaping, Cleveland, Texas, was granted a target completion date of spring 2019, weather permitting, to finish this project valued at more than $679,000.

The contractor will grade the existing trail, create embankments where necessary, make repairs to existing wooden bridges and place hand-rail on the bridges, officials said. The project is funded through a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Construction will first begin near Roxton, Texas; north of the stone bridge northeastward to County Road 22500. After construction there is completed, the work will move to Blossom, Texas, and run from Bois d’Arc Street eastward to County Road 2113 at the Lamar-Red River County line.

Motorists who frequently travel in these areas are advised to pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through these work zones; especially when crossing the trail. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
