PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials recently met with Sammy Gist Enterprises, Clarksville, Texas, and announced that the contractor would begin work to improve FM 412 in Red River County on Oct. 12.
TxDOT granted the contractor 162 business days, weather permitting, to complete this project with an estimated value of more than $2.8 million. The contractor began posting construction alert signs along the roadway Monday.
The project will extend from the intersection of FM 412 and FM 1487 eastward to FM 44, TxDOT officials said. The contractor will reconstruct and widen the roadway pavement to 26 feet wide; resurface the pavement; install safety treatments on existing culverts and replace a pipe culvert with multiple box culverts, and install a new guard rail on the bridge spanning Kickapoo Creek.
TxDOT officials said the target date for completion of this work is August 2017.
They advised drivers to obey all warning signs and traffic controls along this route, watch for flaggers directing traffic, and to reduce their speed and proceed cautiously through work zones while this work is underway. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
