Lufkin’s First United Methodist Church has bats in the bell tower. Well, they are in the attic. The State of Texas protects the bats because they eat bugs and trim the mosquito population. The congregation is unable to use the chapel because of the overpowering smell of guano. The bat’s mating season should end in August, and the church is waiting them out.
