Kroger Collection Drive Benefits Paris Area Students

School supplies that are benefitting North Lamar students at Higgins Elementary and Bailey Intermediate were donated by Kroger the first week of school. Bailey students showing the array of supplies beginning front row left are Sophie Rhea, Mia Davis, Emery Reaves, Addison Sharrock, and Keegan Kennedy. In back are Bailey principal Angela Compton, Bailey counselor Keitha Chalupa, Higgins counselor Amber Clark, and Higgins principal Lori Malone.

Hundreds of deserving students in the Paris area are the recipients of free school supplies to start the year thanks to the efforts of Kroger Food Store.

During a collection drive, shoppers had the opportunity to donate a pre-packaged school supply kit for $7 or make a $1, $3 or $5 donation at the check stand. The collection drive is responsible for equipping local children with the necessary tools for a successful school year. Classroom supplies included are copy paper, Scotch tape, construction paper, markers, sandwich bags, disinfectant wipes, and backpacks.

Kroger operates 111 stores in North Texas, East Texas, and Northwest Louisiana and is part of one of the world’s largest grocery retailers serving customers in 35 states with 2,792 stores.

“We are grateful for our customers, employees, and partners who joined us to make this collection program a success,” says April Martin Nickels, corporate affairs manager for Kroger. “This year was record-breaking. As a result, thousands of children in our region returned to school prepared with the proper tools to help kick-off a successful school year.”
