LeTourneau University women’s soccer opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University at the Joyce Family Athletic Village. It marks the second time in three years that the YellowJackets have opened the season with a win.
After a TLU goal in the 16th minute put the Bulldogs up 1-0, freshman Melanie Shempert found a pass from senior Stephanie Vana to score the first goal of her YellowJacket career.
The two teams went into the half tied at 1, and it remained that way until junior JoLynn O’Kelley came off the bench and scored the game-winning goal to give the YellowJackets the win.
LeTourneau outshot the Bulldogs 13-7, and senior Brittany Hollis recorded her second career win in the goal for the YellowJackets.
The women’s soccer squad will be back in action Saturday for a home matchup against the Mountaineers from Schreiner University at 1 PM.
