LeTourneau University men’s golf breaks the school record with a team score of 577 in the first 36 holes of the season as they teed off at the John Bohmann Invitational hosted by Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas.

Senior Seth Walters shot a 69 in his second round for a total Monday score of 139. That 36-hole score earned Walters the school record breaking the previous record of 141 held by Patrick Palmer. The record-breaking two round total tied him for second overall in the tournament going into the final round on Tuesday.

Junior transfer Chase Esparza looked good in his first match as a YellowJacket, coming into the clubhouse tied for eighth overall with a score of 144. Senior Juan Rodriguez (T23rd, 149) and juniors Mason Terry (25th, 150) and Daniel Kay (T28th, 152) helped LETU score a 577 as a team, breaking the previous school record (578) set back in 2005.

“Seth had a tremendous day of golf and is tied for second in a very strong field! Chase Esparza also had a great day in his YellowJacket debut with strong rounds of 71 and 73 and found himself in a tie for eighth,” said an excited coach Walt Williams. “Every one of the guys played well and contributed to the record breaking day! We will play with the leaders tomorrow in the last pairings and are looking to see how we handle playing with some of the nation’s elite teams.”

The YellowJackets will continue their great play on the course tomorrow morning, teeing off at 8:00 a.m. in Seguin.
