The YellowJackets men had a great showing at the ASC Fall Tournament hosted by Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas this weekend.

The senior leader Ty Grove from Lincoln, Nebraska was the consolation winner in the #1 singles flight as the LeTourneau squad had ten men placing in their flights.

A host of freshman performed extremely well in their first college tournament action. Among those were Sunnyvale, Texas native Jimmie Henson who finished first in flight #3 and Christian Farris from El Paso who also took first in flight #4.

The wins just kept coming for the YellowJackets as sophomore Caleb Epps took third in Flight #6, freshman Daniel Lopez took second in flight #7, and freshman Alex Hernandez earned third in flight #9. In flight #10 both senior Kevin Warren and freshman Collin Patterson placed with Warren finishing in third and Patterson in sixth.

Freshman Nick McFarland out of local White Oak High School and senior Josh Mueller out of West Palm Beach, Florida earned second and third place finishes, respectively, in flight #11.

In doubles action, Caleb Epps and Daniel Lopez won flight #3 coming back from down 4-7. The freshman duo of Christian Farris and Jimmie Henson were flight #2 consolation winners.

Robby Bundy and Zac Crowley-Kurth were 4th in flight #4. Kevin Warren and Collin Patterson placed third in the 5th flight along with the combo of Josh Mueller and Nick McFarland finishing second in flight #6.

“We had an outstanding weekend in every way,” said head coach Suzanne Merritt. “We had excellent results in each flight. We saw strong performances from our returners and had a chance to see how our new players will strengthen and add depth to our team. I’m very proud of the team and looking forward to the ITA tournaments in the next two weeks.”

The YellowJackets will be back on the court on September 29 at the ITA Regional Tennis Tournament in Tyler, Texas.
