MEN’S GOLF
The LeTourneau University men’s golf is in sixth place after Monday’s opening round of the Linda Lowery Invitational at Falconhead Golf Club in Austin.

The YellowJackets shot a round of 312 (+24) host Concordia leads the tournament with a 297 (+9). LeTourneau is within five strokes of the top three as they head into Tuesday’s final round.

“We had some highs and lows today,” said LeTourneau head coach Walt Williams. “The guys played very well early and then weren’t able to shake off some adversity on the back side to finish in the middle of the pack after round one.”

LETU junior Juan Rodriguez leads the YellowJackets with a 76 (+4; 17th) five strokes behind individual co-leaders Cameron Quinn of Concordia and Andrew Errico of Howard Payne, who shot a 71 (-1). Statistically, Rodriguez had 11 pars in his round. LETU sophomore Mason Terry is a stroke behind Rodriguez after shooting a 77 (+5; t-18th), followed by senior Houston Moore, who shot a 78 (+6; t-20th).

The YellowJackets’ junior Seth Walters is in a tie for 36th after shooting an 81 (+9) and sophomore Daniel Kay is 44th after posting an 84 (+12). In his round, Kay had a team-high three birdies to lead the YellowJackets.

Tuesday’s final round will get underway with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

WOMEN’S GOLF
The LeTourneau University women’s golf is in fifth place after Monday’s opening round of the Linda Lowery Invitational at Falconhead Golf Club in Austin.

The YellowJackets shot an opening round 378 (+90); meanwhile, No. 10 UT Tyler leads the tournament with a 329.

LeTourneau head coach Walt Williams explained, “The women had some highs and lows today. They played some great holes and yet showed some early season rust on some others but overall a solid start on a tough course.”

Freshman Faith Williams leads LeTourneau after shooting an 87 (+15) to share 14th along with four others in the field. Kayce Bankert of Schreiner is the top individual with a 79 (+7) for a one-stroke lead on Laura Lindsey of UT Tyler.

Senior Sydney Cash is tied for 25th after posting a 94 (+22), followed by sophomore Melanie Pedigo, who is tied for 28th after a 95 (+23). Junior Alisa Wilson shot a 102 and is in 33rd, followed by senior Kaitlynn Conway, who recorded a 144 as an individual. Cash was the top player in the field in par 3 scoring with -1 play and was one of four players with at least two birdies. Both Williams and Pedigo each had eight pars during their round.

Tuesday’s final round will get underway with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
