MEN’S GOLF
LeTourneau University senior Houston Moore of the men’s golf team and senior Sydney Cash of the women’s golf team were named the American Southwest Conference Golfers of the Week on Wednesday.
Moore overcame windy and rainy conditions at the Loyola Invitational to post his third top-10 finish of the season with an eight-place finish, shooting a 162 (78-84) to lead the YellowJackets. As a team, LeTourneau finished fourth overall after moving up from sixth in Monday’s opening round.
Cash led the LeTourneau University women’s golf team to a ninth-place finish. She finished tied for 17th with a 173 (85-88) to lead the YellowJackets.
Both are back in action, next week when LeTourneau will be the host to the LeTourneau Spring Classic at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Mar. 14-15.
The LeTourneau University men’s golf team moved up to fourth in Tuesday’s final round of the Loyola Invitational.
The field battled 30mph windy conditions on a course filled with water hazards on nearly every hole, noted LETU head coach Walt Williams. Loyola-New Orleans finished third (657); Freed-Hardeman was second (650), and Blue Mountain College won the team title with a 639 (315-324). The YellowJackets moved up from sixth on Monday to finish fourth with a 662 (327-335).
LETU senior Houston Moore overcame the conditions to post his third top-10 finish of the season with an eight-place finish, shooting a 162 (78-84). Lance Moore of Freed-Hardeman won the individual title with a 155 (77-78).
Junior Juan Rodriguez shared 11th place after posting a 164 (80-84), and sophomore Mason Terry tied for 17th with a 166 (84-82) for the YellowJackets. Junior Seth Walters shot a 171 (86-85) to share 32nd. Sophomore Chris Clark was 37th with a 172 (85-87).
The YellowJackets will next be the host to the LeTourneau Spring Classic at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Mar. 14-15.
WOMEN’S GOLF
The LeTourneau University women’s golf team finished ninth at the Loyola Invitational at the Oak Harbor Golf Club in Slidell, Louisiana.
The YellowJackets finished with a final round 385 for a 36-hole total of 758 (373-385). Dalton State took home the team title by three strokes over Coastal Georgia with a 653 (321-353). Diane Lim of Coastal Georgia remained in front after the opening round to win the individual title with a 150 (73-77) for a three-stroke victory.
LETU head coach Walt Williams noted the play of senior Sydney Cash. “She (Sydney) had a great tournament and finished strong in a tough women’s field,” said Williams. Cash finished tied for 17th with a 173 (85-88) to lead the YellowJackets. Sophomore Melanie Pedigo made a six-stroke improvement in the final round with a 90 to finish with an 186 (96-90) and 34th place. Junior Alisa Wilson and freshman Faith Williams finished tied for 40th with a 198 (96-102) and 42nd with a 201 (96-105), respectively. As an individual, senior Kaitlynn Conway was 53rd with a 254 (122-132) and freshman Kristin Boone did not play in Tuesday’s final round.
