No. 20 Centenary came back from a three-run deficit to score six times in the sixth to defeat LeTourneau, 9-5 in a non-conference game on Tuesday in Shreveport.
LETU (6-12) sophomore Rayne Hobbs had a pair of hits – an RBI single in the second and a two-run home run in the loss. Also, senior Brandon Applewhite had a pair of singles for his fifth multi-hit game of the season.
Centenary (18-6) had seven singles, including four in the decisive sixth inning. The Gents’ Cole Lavergne had a pair of RBI to lead Centenary.
To take the early lead, the YellowJackets capitalized on an error by the Gents with three-straight singles in the second inning.
An RBI single by Hobbs, a double play plated another run, then another RBI single brought in the third run for the early lead. A sacrifice fly each in the fourth and fifth inning by Centenary cut the deficit to 3-2 for the host Gents.
Hobbs stretched the LETU lead to 5-2 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Centenary came back with six runs on four hits and four walks to take an 8-5 lead. The Gents added an insurance run with a solo home run in the seventh.
The YellowJackets come back home to host Louisiana College in a three-game series at Conrad-Vernon Field. The series will start on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
