The LeTourneau University women’s tennis season ended in a 5-0 loss to Hardin-Simmons University in the quarterfinals of the 2016 American Southwest Conference Women’s Tennis Championships in Tyler.
The YellowJackets (5-13) lost three tough matches in doubles to begin its third-consecutive appearance in the post-season tournament. The No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomore Rachel Morisseau, and freshman Terin Murray lost 8-4 to Jenna Smith and Hannah Smith. Freshman Schuyler Wages and sophomore Shelby Skomer lost 8-1 at No. 3 doubles to Jasmine Briant and Laura Weinheimer; plus freshman Lauren Rockwell and Morgan Weaver for LETU lost 8-0 at No. 2 doubles to Shayne Cook and Michaela Ellison.
The Cowgirls (13-5), who are ranked No. 14 in the latest ITA regional rankings, secured the victory with wins at No. 4 singles by Hannah Smith and Jasmine Briant at No. 5 singles.
With the win, Hardin-Simmons advances to Friday’s quarterfinals to face East Texas Baptist at 10:30 a.m. at the Summers Tennis Center on the campus of UT Tyler.
