East Texas Baptist University posted a 13-3 win over LeTourneau University in a non-conference game at Conrad-Vernon Field on Tuesday night in Longview.

The YellowJackets (13-19) found themselves behind 6-0 before getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third.

East Texas Baptist (26-11) scored in six of the nine innings with three runs each in the second, fifth and eighth en route to the win. The Tigers’ Dynas Doud, Brice Winter, and Jaxon Rader each had three hits to lead a 19-hit attack.

LeTourneau plated its first run of the contest in the third inning. Senior Bryce Henry started the inning, reaching on an ETBU error. He moved to third on a single by senior Sean Sellers. The Tigers’ picked off Sellers off first and on the run down, Henry scored from third to cut the deficit to 6-1.

Trailing 10-1 in the seventh, LETU loaded the bases and with two out, Sellers and senior Taylor Empkey were each hit by a pitch that trimmed the Tigers’ lead to seven, 10-3. ETBU added three in the eighth inning for the final margin.

Both teams used four pitchers with ETBU starter Kyle Loson raising his record to 4-2 after a five-inning stint. Loson allowed four hits and struck out three. The YellowJackets’ starter Alec Ovalle drops to 1-1 after pitching 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs (all earned) and striking out three.

The YellowJackets will next close out the home portion of its season with a crucial three-game series against UT Dallas at Conrad-Vernon Field. The series is scheduled to start on Friday at 7:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Between games of Saturday’s doubleheader, LETU will honor its ten seniors, who will be wrapping up their careers in 2016.
