Division III Week

 

LONGVIEW, Texas – The LeTourneau University Athletic Department is proud to announce their participation in the eighth-annual National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) “Division III Week.” It was a favorable opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.

In conjunction with Division III Week, LETU will be participating in and hosting a variety of events and activities, focusing on academic, athletic, and community service initiatives. This week, LeTourneau University is joining 451 NCAA Division III member schools and 194,000 student-athletes who play varsity sports in the NCAA’s largest division, playing for the love of the game while excelling in the classroom and demonstrating leadership, community service, and campus involvement. A full schedule of events is below.

Tuesday, April 3
LeTourneau University women’s and men’s tennis exhibition vs. Jacksonville College, 3:00 p.m. – Davis Tennis Courts

Thursday, April 5
LeTourneau University senior student-athlete luncheon – each senior student-athlete will invite one faculty/staff member that has had a positive impact on their time at LeTourneau, and ask them to lunch to thank them.

Longview Green and Clean – 9:00 a.m., The LeTourneau University Athletic Department has adopted two streets near the LETU Campus and will be doing a trash pick-up in conjunction with the City of Longview’s semiannual citywide Green and Clean event.

These events are part of Division III’s Identity Initiative, which was introduced in 2010 to sharpen the division’s identity and to enable schools and conferences to more effectively explain why they prefer to compete in Division III. The initiative has been guided by a strategic-positioning platform, describing Division III as a place where student-athletes can “follow your passions and develop your potential,” within an approach that combines rigorous academics, competitive sports and an opportunity to pursue other interests.

 

BASEBALL

RICHARDSON, Texas – For the first time in his career, LeTourneau University junior shortstop Will Bradshaw has been named American Southwest Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for his performances during the week of March 26-31.

Bradshaw hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to give LeTourneau a 5-4, 11-inning victory over Ozarks in the series opener. In the series finale, Bradshaw then went two-for-three at the plate while scoring twice. For the week, Bradshaw hit .417 (5-12) with four RBI, two walks, six runs scored and two steals.

A native of Longview, Texas, Bradshaw is a material joining engineering major at LeTourneau University. He is the son of Bill and Ann Bradshaw.
