LeTourneau University – Sports

SOFTBALL

IRVING, Texas – The LeTourneau University softball team closed out their 2018 non-conference schedule by splitting a pair of games at the University of Dallas with a 3-2 loss before bouncing back for a 10-8 win at Crusader Field in Irving, Texas on Tuesday, April 17.

LeTourneau will now enter the final two American Southwest Conference series of the year with a 12-20 overall record while the Crusaders now sit at 7-25 overall following the split.

In game one, The YellowJackets would trail 3-2 heading to the top of the seventh and put two runners on despite just one hit but would be unable to push across any runs as Dallas would end the game with a fly out to center field. Senior Ashlin Roach would go one-for-three at the plate with a home run in the game while Julie Martinez took the loss despite pitching one of the lowest scoring outputs of the season by an opposing team.

Game two saw LETU fall behind early after giving up a pair of runs before responding with four runs of their own and maintaining their lead throughout the rest of the contest. After taking a 10-4 lead heading to the sixth inning, the YellowJackets would see the Crusaders scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh and put the game-tying run on second before managing to hold on for the win. Amber Fillbrandt earned the pitching victory in game two for LeTourneau, improving to 2-3 overall on the season. Ethel Warren proved to have the hot bat in game two, finishing three-for-five with a double and three runs batted in for LETU.

Full statistics were not available from Tuesday night at the time of this recap, with complete box scores expected to be available tomorrow morning. LeTourneau will travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons in the final road series of the year. Game one will get underway at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 20th before the YellowJackets and Cowgirls face off in an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
