TRACK AND FIELD


ABILENE, Texas – Getting one final opportunity to improve their marks in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, LeTourneau University men’s track and field freshmen Alex Hindman and Austin Parrish finished third and fourth in the pole vault. It was at the Abilene Christian Wildcat Last Chance Meet at Elmer Gray Stadium in Abilene, Texas on Sunday, May 13.

Hindman was able to match a school-record mark set by Parrish earlier this year by clearing 4.90 meters (16 ft. – 0.75 in.) while Parrish cleared 4.60 meters (15 ft. – 1 in.).

With the 2018 outdoor track and field regular-season complete, both Parrish and Hindman are currently tied with the 11th-best mark (4.90 meters) in all of NCAA Division III this year during the outdoor track and field season. Both freshmen will await the official announcement from the NCAA which will take place on Friday, May 18th. Athletes from NCAA Division III schools will be able to compete and record qualifying marks through Thursday, May 17th with the top-20 declared student-athletes accepted into each event at the outdoor championships.

 

SUMMER CAMP

LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau University head softball coach Stan Wells has announced that the YellowJacket softball coaching staff will host a one-day, all-skills softball day camp on the campus of LeTourneau University this summer.

The camp will be held on Thursday, June 14th and will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. for participants 8th grade through 12th grade. Campers will participate in a traditional camp format in the morning with live scrimmages to take place after lunch.

All participants in the LETU softball camp will be given a camp T-shirt, and will also have lunch provided as part of the camp cost of $80. Camp registration will take place the morning of June 14th as camp participants arrive at the LeTourneau University campus.

TRACK AND FIELD

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Looking to improve their marks one final time during the 2018 outdoor track and field regular-season, the LeTourneau University men’s track and field team saw two athletes record marks at the McNeese State University Last Chance Meet in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Saturday, May 12.

In the pole vault, freshman Austin Parrish would clear 4.60 meters (15 ft. – 1 in.) to finish in fourth place while freshman Alex Hindman would compete but be unable to record a mark. The long jump saw freshman Javaughn Dantzler take seventh with a score of 7.01 meters (23 ft. – 0 in.) while Stanley Williams competed and did not record a qualifying mark.

With the regular-season completed, LeTourneau will now await results from other last chance meets to find out how many athletes they have that are among the top in their respective event that have recorded qualifying marks. If they choose any YellowJacket athletes for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, they will compete in La Crosse, WI May 24-26 on the campus of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

 

BASEBALL

LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau University head baseball coach Robin Harriss has announced that the YellowJacket baseball coaching staff will host a youth baseball day camp on the campus of LeTourneau University this summer.

The camp will be held June 11-14 and will take place from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day. The event will emphasize instruction on pitching, hitting, and defense and conducted by the LeTourneau University baseball coaching staff. Players will participate in first position drills, team drills, batting instruction and time permitting, live games. The camp is open for youth aged 7-12, and special arrangements can be made to accommodate others.

Those attending the LETU baseball camp are asked to bring a glove hat, bat, baseball pants, and sunscreen. All participants in the LETU baseball camp receive a camp T-shirt, included in the registration cost of $125 per participant.
