LeTourneau University – Sports

 

 

LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau University head volleyball coach Ashley Tiernan has released her upcoming 2018 volleyball schedule which will feature seven home matches at Solheim Arena this fall.

In total, LETU will play in 29 regular-season matches, which will include 16 games against American Southwest Conference foes. The YellowJackets will host their annual Blue-Gold scrimmage for the unofficial start to the season on Friday, August 24, at 7:00 pm and host an alumni game on Saturday, August 25, before concluding the preseason with a scrimmage at Texas-Tyler on August 28.

“I am excited to jump into my second season here at LeTourneau,” said head coach Ashley Tiernan when asked about the 2018 schedule. “We have an exciting recruiting class coming in, and our schedule is designed to challenge us to the max before competing in American Southwest Conference play.” “We will be on the road for most of September and then turn around and host for the majority of October.”

LeTourneau’s 2018 campaign will get underway on Saturday, September 1, with a pair of matches at the Texas-Dallas Labor-Day Invitational, taking on Wisconsin-Superior at 9 a.m. and Heidelberg University at 2:00 pm. The season-opening 14 match road trip continues on Tuesday, September 4, with a non-conference match at Jarvis Christian College and will remain the weekend of September 7 and 8 with four games against opponents determined at the Austin College Invitational.

ASC play will start on Tuesday, September 11, with a 7:00 pm road match at Texas-Tyler and continue on September 14, with a 7:00 pm match at Louisiana College. A quick turnaround for LETU will see the YellowJackets take on Belhaven University the following day at 1:00 pm before traveling to Richardson, Texas to take on Texas-Dallas at 7:00 pm on September 18.

The most extended trek of the season will see LeTourneau travel all the way out to Alpine, Texas to take part in the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament beginning Friday, September 21, where LETU will take on Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University on day one. Saturday’s slate for the YellowJackets will feature a single-match against tournament host Sul Ross State University at 12:00 pm.

LETU’s home opener will take place on September 25, at 7:00 pm with a match against East Texas Baptist University before seeing the YellowJackets once again hit the road for a three-match weekend beginning Friday, September 28, at Centenary College. LeTourneau will then travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on Oglethorpe University at 2:00 pm and Rhodes College at 4:00 pm in a triangular hosted by the Lynx.

Following a month of nearly all travel for LeTourneau, LETU will open up October at home with a non-conference match against Austin College on Tuesday, October 2, at 6:00 pm and play host to Louisiana College and the University of Dallas for a Triangular on Friday, October 5. The four-match home week concludes on Saturday, October 6, with a 1:00 pm start against Belhaven University.

The homestand will conclude on October 9, at 7:00 pm with a match against Texas-Tyler at Solheim Arena before the YellowJackets turn around and travel to Tyler to take part in the second ASC Crossover Tournament. LETU will take on Concordia Texas at 100 pm on Friday, October 12, before facing off against Howard Payne and Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, October 13.

The final home match of the year for LeTourneau will take place on Tuesday, October 16, at 7:00 pm when the YellowJackets host Texas-Dallas before hitting the road for their final two regular-season matches of the year. NCAA Division III newcomer University of St. Thomas-Houston will play host to LETU at 6:00 pm on Friday, October 19, before the YellowJackets and Tigers of East Texas Baptist square off in Marshall at 7:00 pm on October 23, to conclude the regular-season.

LeTourneau will be looking to make their second all-time appearance in the American Southwest Conference Tournament, which will take place November 1 through the 3rd.
