The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation will be holding its seventeenth Lights of Life Gala on April 22, 2023. The gala has been popular with the Hopkins County community since it was first held in 2006. Dinner, dancing, and fundraising for improved local health care options have always been the focus of the evening.
Hopkins County citizens have greatly benefitted from the efforts of the Gala and the volunteers who are the driving force behind the event. The first project of the Gala was to build the Gardens at Memorial. Not only are the gardens a great place to get in a bit of exercise on its meandering concrete path, but it is also a place to go for peace, reflection, and calm. Benches dot the path as do trees, flower beds, and a soothing water feature.
Patients, families, hospital staff and paramedics gravitate to the gardens to clear their heads, refocus after a stressful situation, or just to drink in the beauty of nature. The setting offers healing for the spirit as well as the body.
Other medical equipment and health opportunities were purchased with Gala proceeds in the years that followed. Expert medical staff now have state-of-the-art equipment which allows them to better serve their patients. Lives have been saved.
Some projects have been focused on children and young families. Some have benefitted women or those with mobility issues. All projects are for the benefit of Hopkins County citizens.
While some events that have been around for seventeen year may struggle to stay afloat, the Lights of Life Gala is a mainstay for the community. There will always be needs, new advances and challenges (such as COVID-19) that will present themselves, but with the funds raised through the Gala and other Foundation events, local health care providers will be equipped to treat and protect the citizens of Hopkins County.
One way to make this happen is by community members, local businesses, and those who care about the health and wellness of Hopkins County joining together for a night of fun which has deeply important impacts on local health.
