Lions Club – Pittsburg

Our first exciting project is a service project called Comfort Lions. We are purchasing toy stuffed Lions to donate to UT Health Hospital and Emergency Room and our local police department and EMS or wherever kids may be in a stressful or traumatic situation. Stuff animals are an excellent tool for distracting children from pain, provide feelings of safety and comfort, help control emotions, and release stress. The director of the ER at UT Health told me they saw 150 children under the age of 15 in August. Many doctors and nurses in the ER purchase items themselves to have on hand to give children who need comfort or distraction during their visit to the ER. So the Pittsburg Lions went into action and partnered with Rooster Grill at Anvil Brewing for a fundraiser for this Saturday, October 17. Rooster Grill will be donating 10% of all their food sales for the ENTIRE DAY, 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, to the Pittsburg Lions Club so we can purchase the toy stuff lions. I have attached a flyer telling you more about our fundraiser.

The cost of each lion is $12. For every $12 donation made by an individual or organization, Rooster Grill at Anvil Brewing will post their name on the wall, and the Pittsburg Lions Club will list it in the Gazette and on their Facebook page.

There will be a few Lions Club members on hand at Rooster Grill Saturday to talk about our projects.

Our other exciting project is called Pittsburg Lions Fight Diabetes. November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and November 14 is World Diabetes Day. Again, we have partnered with Rooster Grill at Anvil Brewing for a lunchtime awareness event set for Thursday, November 12. The Chef at Rooster Grill has created a Healthy Menu for the event and will be donating $1 for each plate ordered from that menu and donating it to the Pittsburg Lions Club. Christina Graham RDN, LD, CDCES from Titus Regional, will speak during that lunch, and she will bring a lot of information to share. There will also be a raffle for some fun items, and there will be some free stuff. It will be a fun and informative lunchtime event and open to the public. All the proceeds for this event will go to Texas Lions Camp for kids with Diabetes.

The Pittsburg Lions meet at Rooster Grill on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at noon. We are a long-standing club meeting since 1954 and have been serving in the community of Pittsburg ever since. The Pittsburg Lions are growing, serving our community, and having fun doing it.
