Local Baseball and Softball And Stars Battle Blackhawks Tonight

Paris – District play in high school baseball and softball picked back up yesterday. The evening was highlighted by a slugfest where Prairiland defeated Cooper 17-10. The Patriots are off to a 3-0 start to district play and take on DeKalb tonight at home. First pitch is at 7:30. The Chisum Mustangs and Lady Mustangs were also in action last night against New Boston. Chisum softball fell to the Lady Lions 8-0, while the baseball team lost 13-1.

Tonight the North Lamar Pantherette’s will be on the road against Pittsburg at 6. While the Paris Wildcats will be up the road against the Gilmer Buckeyes at 7.

MP – District play in high school baseball and softball pick back up this evening. A pair of local teams square off when the Mt. Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers host the Chapel Hill Devils and Lady Devils starting with softball at 5:30 followed by baseball action at 7. Mt. Pleasant softball look to take over first place in district 15-5A when they play fellow unbeaten Hallsville. First pitch on the road is at 6pm. And the Pittsburg Lady Pirates will host the North Lamar Pantherette’s at 6pm in district 15-4A. The Pirate baseball team is off this evening.

SS – District play in high school baseball and softball pick back up this evening. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are 1-1 in district 15-5A and will be on the road tonight against 0-2 Greenville on the road at 7pm. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats are 3-1 as they near the midway point and will host the Greenville Lady Lions. First pitch is at 6pm.

The Mt. Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers will host the Chapel Hill Devils and Lady Devils, beginning with the softball game at 5:30. Mt. Vernon vs Chapel Hill baseball begins at 7.

The Dallas Stars are back on the ice tonight against divisional rival, the Chicago Blackhawks. After a 3-2 home stand, the Stars are 43-21-9 overall with 95 points on the season. The St. Louis Blues and LA Kings are close behind with 93 points, followed by Chicago in 4th place with 91. Tonight marks the first of three straight games on the road for the Stars. Puck drop tonight between the Stars and Blackhawks is set for 7:30.

In Cactus League Springs Training the Texas Rangers fall to the Colorado Rockies 9-6. Starting pitcher Martin Perez was given the loss after giving up three earned runs in four and a third innings pitched. Jeremy Guthrie also allowed 3 earned in a relief effort. Right fielder Ryan Rua went 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI for Texas. The Rangers return to action this afternoon against San Diego at 3:10.

In college hoops the sweet 16 round returns on Thursday, in the meantime a couple of Texas schools made coaching changes. Texas Christian University will bring in former Pitt Panther head coach Jamie Dixon and Stephen F. Austin lose their coach, Brad Underwood. He’ll be headed to Oklahoma State.
