Paris – Several Red River Valley teams picked up district victories in high school baseball and softball, headlined by a no-hitter from Chisum Lady Mustang Paige Shelton, routing the Cooper Dogettes 13-2. The Prairiland Patriots and Lady Patriots sweep Hooks with the baseball team winning 9-6 and improving to 4-1 in district play. The Lady Pats picked up a 5-3 victory and are 4-2 in district. The North Lamar Pantherette softball team dropped their second consecutive district contest 3-1 to Atlanta, while the North Lamar boys won 3-1 over the Rabbits, setting up a showdown tonight with crosstown rival Paris, who dominated Liberty Eylau 7-1 Friday night. The game this evening can be heard live on 101.9 KBUS. First pitch is at 7:30.
MP – Over the weekend in district play in high school baseball and softball the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers add another victory, this time 4-2 over Pine Tree. with the win, Mt. Pleasant softball improves to 5-1 in district 15-5A and are in 2nd place behind Hallsville. The Mt.Pleasant boys fell to the Pine Tree Pirates 6-0. At 2-2 the Tigers are tied for 3rd place in the district. The Chapel Hill Lady Devils used a 6 run first inning to cruise past Daingerfield 9-5. The Blue Tigers will host the Purple Tigers from Mt. Vernon tomorrow night And the Pittsburg Pirates open up district 15-4A play with a 7-1 loss to 3rd ranked Pleasant Grove. The Pirates return to action tonight when they try to bounce back on the road against Liberty Eylau.
SS – Over the weekend in district play in high school baseball and softball the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats were swept by the Hallsville Bobcats and Lady Cats. The boys fell 6-1 and drop to 2-2 in district 15-5A play, tied for 3rd. The Lady Cats suffered an 11-0 and are now 4-2 with sole possession of 3rd place. Next up, Sulphur Springs baseball and softball will take on Pine Tree. The girls are on the road with first pitch at 6pm. The boys play at home at 7. Mt. Vernon will be picking back up tomorrow as well when they travel to take on the Daingerfield Tigers. Softball begins are 5:30. Baseball starts at 7.
And in college softball the Texas A&M Commerce Lady Lions struggles continue after dropping both games in their double header with Texas Women’s University 6-3 and 5-3. The Lady Lions now have an even 10-10 record in the conference.
Last night in the NBA the Dallas Mavericks get throttled by Sacramento 133-111. The Kings had eight players finish in double figures. with the loss the Mavs are now 35-38 on the season and drop to 9th in the western conference, half a game out of a playoff spot.
The Dallas Stars look to stay hot tonight when they host the Nashville Predators at the AAC. The Stars are tied with St. Louis at the top of the west standings with 99 points on the season. Puck drop tonight between Dallas and Nashville is set for 7:30.
And in the NCAA Elite Eight, the North Carolina Tarheels are the lone remaining one seed in the tournament after knocking off Notre Dame 88-74. They’ll take on 10 seed Syracuse, who eliminated 1 seed Virginia 68-62. Villanova beat Kansas 64-59. They’ll face Buddy Hield and Oklahoma in the final four after the 2nd seeded Sooners beat 1 Seed Oregon 80-68. The final four is scheduled for April 2nd.
