Paris – Area teams returned to action last night in district play of high school baseball and softball. The North Lamar Panthers split with the Atlanta Rabbits. Jake Wynn led the Panther baseball team to a 1-0 victory with a walk off home run in the bottom of the 7th. The Pantherette’s would fall to the Lady Rabbits 5-4. The Prairiland Lady Patriots took down the Cooper Dogette’s 10-0. The Paris Wildcats fall to Liberty Eylau 10-3 and the Chisum Lady Mustangs suffer an 11-1 loss at the hands of New Boston. Chisum baseball will face the Lions on the road today at 5pm, while the Prairiland Patriots host the Cooper Bulldogs at 6:30.
Mount Pleasant – Area teams returned to action last night in district play of high school baseball and softball. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers drop a close game to Sulphur Springs 4-3. With the loss Mt. Pleasant fall to 4-5 in district 15-5A. The Lady Tigers will take on Sulphur Springs on the road today at 4:30. Mt. Pleasant softball is 8-2 in district play. The Pittsburg Pirates suffered a sweep at the hands of Pleasant Grove with the baseball team dropping their game 6-4, while the Lady Pirates fall 8-5. This weekend will feature the Chapel Hill Red Devils and Lady Devils as they host the Mt. Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers. Game times on Friday are 5:30 and 7:30.
Sulphur Springs – Area teams returned to action last night in district play of high school baseball and softball. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats pick up a big win 4-3 over interstate 30 rival Mt. Pleasant. With the victory Sulphur Springs improves to 3-6 in district 15-5A. The Lady Cats will face the Lady Tigers this evening at home. Sulphur Springs Softball is currently 7-3, while Mt. Pleasant leads them by one game at 8-2. First pitch from the circle is set for 4:30. The Mt. Vernon Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action on Friday night at Chapel Hill. Mt. Vernon Softball will begin at 5:30. The baseball game will follow at 7:30.
Last night in Major League Baseball the Texas Rangers shut out the Seattle Mariners 8-0 behind 6 2/3 stellar innings from Derek Holland earning his first win of the season. Third baseman Adrian Beltre provided the pop at the plate with 5 RBI’s…. The Rangers improve to 5-4 and will wrap up their three game set against the Mariners this afternoon [in Paris on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm.] First pitch is scheduled for 2:40 central time.
In the NBA tonight the Dallas Mavericks play a potential first round playoff match up against the San Antonio Spurs to finish up the regular season. The Mavs enter the game with a 42-39 record, while the Spurs are 66-15. Tip off tonight at the AAC is set for 7pm.
And the NHL playoffs begin tomorrow night for the top seeded Dallas Stars. They’ll take on 8 seed Minnesota in their first round best of seven series. Dallas finished with 109 points to lead the western conference. The Wild tallied 87. Puck drop tomorrow is scheduled for 8:30.
