Local Sports for Monday 3/14

High School Basketball State Championships – This past weekend the Texas High School boys basketball State tournament was held.  In class 6A the Desoto Eagles defeated previously unbeaten Atascocita 73-54.  The Lancaster Tigers win the Class 5A title after beating Fort Bend Elkins 67-64.  In Class 4A The Dallas Lincoln Tigers beat Silsbee 75-72 to win a state title. The Brownfield Cubs throttles East Chambers 80-54 in the Class 3A Championship game.  In Class 2A the Canadian Wildcats beats Muenster 56-46.  And the Class A Texas High School Basketball State Champion are the Avinger Indians beating Grady with a stellar defensive performance 50-36.

 

In the NHL The Dallas Stars pick up three points over the weekend to stay in a tie for 1st place in the Western conference.  On Friday evening Dallas throttled the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2.  Followed by a 5-4 overtime loss to St. Louis, who also has 91 points on the season along with the Stars.  Next up, will be a home match tomorrow night at the AAC against the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30.

 

The Dallas Mavericks continue to struggle, falling to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday 112-105.  The Mavs are now on a five game losing streak and are tied for 7th place in the Western Conference with the Houston Rockets.  The 9th place Utah Jazz are two games back.  Dallas returns to the court tonight against the Charlotte Hornets at 6pm.

 

And March Madness begins in the NCAA Hoops.  The Kansas Jayhawks, North Carolina Tarheels, Virginian Cavaliers and the Oregon Ducks were rewarded the tournaments top seeds.  The Madness begins tomorrow with play in games.  The round of 64 starts Thursday.
