Area volleyball teams will be in action this weekend to tune up for the regular season.

Paris – The 10th ranked North Lamar Pantherette’s and Paris Lady Cats will host their annual play day. Tomorrow’s matches will be at North Lamar then cross over to Paris High on Saturday. The Prairiland Lady Patriots will also participate.

Mount Pleasant – Several area teams will meet tomorrow at Willie Williams Gym as the Mt Pleasant Lady Tigers host a round robin scrimmage. School’s taking part include the Mt Vernon Lady Tigers, Pittsburg Lady Pirates, and Chapel Hill Lady Devils.

Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will play in a pair of scrimmages. First, hosting Commerce and Cumby at Sulphur Springs High school on Friday, followed by a trip to Wills Point on Saturday. North Hopkins Volleyball will host a scrimmage on Saturday as well.

Last night the Texas Rangers avoid a sweep at the hands of Seattle beating the Mariners, 5-1. Joey Gallo launched his 28th homer of the season in the 5th inning and clearing Greens Hill for the second night in a row. Andrew Cashner picked up the win on the mound for the Rangers, who are now 4.5 games out of a wildcard spot in the American League. Texas will travel to Minnesota today to take on the Twins. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am] is set for 7:10 pm.

Meanwhile, former Rangers pitcher, Yu Darvish, will make his debut with the L-A Dodgers tomorrow night against the New York Mets.

The Dallas Cowboys play preseason game number one tonight against the Arizona Cardinals in the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. Cowboys owner, General Manager and President of Operations, Jerry Jones, will be recognized at the game as a member of the 2017 Hall of Fame Class. On Saturday, Jones will be officially immortalized and enshrined in Canton. His wife, Gene, will formally introduce him as a Hall member. Kickoff to pre-season game number one tonight is at 7:00 pm.
