Texas Wesleyan Baseball Coach Mike Jeffcoat turned down a Colorado high school student who was interested in being recruited to play on his team. Coach Jeffcoat told the player he no longer recruits any players from Colorado because they have had trouble passing the Fort Worth school’s drug test. He then wrote to the player that he could thank his liberal politicians in Colorado. Texas Wesleyan fired Coach Jeffcoat.

HIGH SCHOOL

The Mt Vernon Lady Tigers made it over the hump to the State Championship Game after defeating Brock 46-37 at the Alamodome in San Antonio Thursday afternoon. Alyssa Hill led the scoring with 15 points followed by Annie Coffee with 14. Mt Vernon now faces the Lady Bulldogs of Marlin on Saturday morning. Coach Brad Floyd talks about Saturday’s opponent (Interview). The pregame will start Saturday morning at 9:30. The tipoff is scheduled for 10:00 am. The game will be broadcast live on K-lake 97.7 and K-Lake977.com. The Mt Vernon boys take on Kemp at Rockwall Heath Fri 8:00 pm.

The Mt Pleasant High School Tiger Basketball team will take on Lancaster Friday (Mar 2) in the Region II Tournament. Tip-off is 7:30 at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd. in Garland. Mt Pleasant is the visiting team and uses the West Entrance. Ticket prices $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for students. Parking is $10. District passes will not be accepted. The Curtis Culwell Center has a strict policy regarding what you bring into the building. Bags have to be clear plastic not exceeding 12″x6″x12″, one-gallon clear plastic Ziploc-bats, or clutch bags approximately the size of a hand. The first game is Midlothian and Prosper at 6:00 pm. There will be community send-off for the Tiger Basketball team, Friday morning at 9:00 am. Mt Pleasant is taking on Lancaster tonight in Garland. Tipoff is 7:30.
