Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that contractor Richard Drake Construction will begin entrance and exit ramp repairs at four locations along Loop 286 in Paris beginning April 12.

The mill and overlay repairs strip away the existing roadway surface and then install a new surface, making the roadway smoother and safer for motorists, officials said. The contractor will work on one ramp at a time at each location before moving to another ramp or location. The affected ramps will be closed to traffic during daytime hours, but re-opened for traffic at night.

The repairs/closures will occur in this order:

  • Loop 286 and US 82 East: northeast on-ramp (Walgreens); southeast off-ramp (CVS); southwest on-ramp (Burger King).
  • Loop 286 and FM 195: along FM 195 from East Hickory Street to Spur 139; southwest off-ramp (Nicholson Outdoor Power, Wholesale Electrical Supply).
  • Loop 286 and US 271 North (Main Street): northwest on-ramp (Budget Inn); southwest off-ramp (Atwoods); northeast off-ramp (Mobil gas station); southeast on-ramp (Whataburger).
  • Loop 286 and FM 79: southeast on-ramp (Skinners).

TxDOT officials said the contractor will begin work on this project on April 12. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes while this work is underway, remain alert for warning signs, and obey all traffic controls at these locations. Drivers should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems when driving.

Officials expect the work to be completed in three weeks, weather permitting.
