There plenty of talk about a shortage of COVID vaccines, but those who give the shots face another problem. Dr. Diana Fite, who heads the Texas Medical Association, says it’s common for doctors to end the day with extra doses, and nothing to do with it, so it goes in the trash. The amounts are only adequate for six hours once the syringe goes into the vial. Dr. Fite says they pressure doctors to trash extras instead of reporting them. If a provider doesn’t use every bit, they lose credibility, which hurts the state’s overall allocation.
