Maryann Miller, WCA Theatre & Literary Director

Sixth Annual Author Showcase
Winnsboro TX – The Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA) will host the Sixth Annual Author Showcase in conjunction with the Art & Wine Festival in downtown Winnsboro on Saturday, November 12, 2016, from 9:00 to 4:30. The event is free, and this is a perfect time and place to do some holiday shopping. Art in any form can make such a great gift.

Visitors to the Author Showcase can meet Texas writers who have a broad range of books; from mystery to nonfiction and lots of books for kids. Authors include Winnsboro’s own Maryann Miller, who has several mysteries as well as the Images of Winnsboro history book; Frankie Capers, who has two delightful picture/coloring books for kids; Marvin S. Mayer, who has a number of children’s books; and Sharon Feldt and Mary Brook Casad, both bringing picture books.

“I love the books for kids,” says Maryann Miller, event coordinator. “They have such beautiful illustrations that are a work of art in themselves, and Frankie’s books are also coloring books. Everyone is into coloring these days, and the books appeal to adults as much as children.

“Every year there is always a lot of activity around the tables of children’s books as kids and parents visit with the authors and talk about the magic of stories that take us away from real life for just a little while. And that is just as true for the books aimed at the adult reader. We all love to escape into a good story.”

All of the authors are from a wide area of Northeast Texas, one from the Dallas area, a couple from close to Tyler, and a few from right here in Winnsboro. Rebecca Crump will have two books in The Council series for adults, and Jean Lauzier and her daughter, Beth, will showcase some children’s books and a mystery for adults. Lana Lynne Higginbotham will feature Life Between the Letters, a historical novel, based on real life events, that she wrote with Mary K. Felder.

Some the books available for purchase have won awards. Glory Be, by Martha B. Hook, was honored with the Writer’s Digest Book Awards; JC Hulsey’s, The Traveler, was voted best Western Series by the Texas Association of Authors; and Doubletake, by Maryann Miller, was chosen as the Best Mystery for 2015 by the Texas Association of Authors.

“The WCA board is so pleased that the Author Showcase has gained popularity since the first one,” Miller says. “And some of the proceeds from sales go to the art center. So not only is this a good way to pick up a few Christmas gifts, it is a way to support the arts in the area.”
