Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom
As we are all aware, COVID-19 has affected many aspects of our lives. Unfortunately, the deaths of loved ones will remain paramount in the history of the pandemic that has swept our country. Our family members, our friends, our elderly, and even those visiting from areas surrounding our county, our state, and other states of our great country have contributed to the number of recorded deaths in Hopkins County.
This day, January 5, 2021, compiled data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Texas Department of Health reports 71 deaths for Hopkins County. These statistics reflect the total number of deaths from the Coronavirus that occurred in our county.
Regarding the total number of deaths from all causes, the Hopkins County Clerk’s office reports 514 deaths from all causes. There is an additional nine pending receipt from the Department of Vital Statistics of Texas.
Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs has had patient admissions from not only Hopkins County but also from Rains, Delta, Wood, Franklin, Hunt, Lamar, and other Texas counties and those from other states. Our hospital has exhibited excellence in standing firm in the midst of one of the most challenging years in history.
