Roope Hintz (ROW-puh) scored the first in a four-goal third-period for Dallas, including two from Thomas Harley, and the Stars beat the Calgary Flames 6-2 on Sunday night.

On Sunday, Undefeated Oregon earned the No. 1 overall seed in the first 12-team College Football Playoff field. At the same time, SMU, despite a loss in the ACC championship game, nudged out Alabama to earn the final spot. Behind Oregon are No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Texas, 4 Penn State, 5 Notre Dame, 6 Ohio State, 7 Tennessee, 8 Indiana, 9 Boise State, and No. 10 SMU.

The College Football Playoff’s first round of 2024 matches No. 12 Clemson and Texas, Tennessee vs. Ohio State, SMU takes on Penn State, and Indiana goes against Notre Dame. Arizona, Oregon, Boise State, and Georgia are waiting to play the winners.

ETAMU

The East Texas A&M University men’s basketball team suffered a 65-53 loss to the UIW Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Center. The loss to the Cardinals rounded out the first weekend of Southland Conference play for the Lions, who play three more non-conference games before resuming SLC action in January. The Lions play the next two at home, hosting South Alabama next Sunday at 11:00 am and Abilene Christian at 11:00 am on December 18.

Non-conference play ended with a 74-59 loss for the East Texas A&M University women’s basketball team to Abilene Christian on Saturday afternoon at Wessel Court. The Lions begin Southland Conference play at Houston Christian next Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The East Texas A&M University men’s track and field team kicked off the 2024-25 indoor season on Friday night with five runners competing in the Crimson & Gold Invitational at the Robert W. Plaster Center. The first full indoor meet of the season comes on January 10 at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational in College Station.
