Bill Mercer, a legendary sports commentator and broadcast journalist in North Texas for decades, died at 99.  Dallas Cowboys broadcaster Brad Sham announced Mercer’s death Sunday on X. “Truly the Godfather of DFW sports broadcasting, a national treasure, mentor, teacher, storyteller and friend,” Sham wrote. “Race well run, old friend.”

The Houston Texans and free agent offensive tackle Trent Brown have agreed on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. Last season, a season-ending injury limited Brown to three games with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Anthony Davis could be close to returning to the Dallas Mavericks after a six-week injury absence. The star forward is listed as doubtful against the Nets on Monday night, starting a four-game road trip.

Just hours after firing head basketball coach Rodney Terry, the Texas Longhorns say they will replace him with Xavier coach Sean Miller. Miller was reportedly a finalist for the Texas job in 2023 before they gave it to Terry.

The Lamar Cardinals walked off the East Texas A&M University softball team for the second time this weekend, winning Saturday afternoon’s series finale 5-4 at the LU Softball Complex. The Lions play nine of their next 12 at home, beginning with a series against Northwestern State next weekend. Friday’s doubleheader is 5:00 pm, and the series finale comes on Saturday at Noon.

HIGH SCHOOL

America’s team is bringing flag football to Fort Worth elementary schools today. The Dallas Cowboys Youth Football Development Staff will train PE teachers to use the NFL flag-in-school curriculum. Teachers received kits with footballs, flag belts, and lesson plans to help kids stay active. The program has already reached over 16 million students nationwide.

Bill Mercer, un legendario comentarista deportivo y periodista televisivo en el norte de Texas durante décadas, murió a los 99 años.  El locutor de los Dallas Cowboys, Brad Sham, anunció la muerte de Mercer el domingo en X. “Verdaderamente el padrino de la transmisión deportiva de DFW, un tesoro nacional, mentor, maestro, narrador y amigo”, escribió Sham. “Corre bien, viejo amigo”.

ESCUELA SECUNDARIA

El equipo de Estados Unidos está llevando el fútbol de bandera a las escuelas primarias de Fort Worth hoy. El personal de desarrollo de fútbol juvenil de los Dallas Cowboys capacitará a los maestros de educación física para usar el plan de estudios de la bandera de la NFL en la escuela. Los maestros recibieron kits con balones de fútbol, cinturones de banderas y planes de lecciones para ayudar a los niños a mantenerse activos. El programa ya ha llegado a más de 16 millones de estudiantes en todo el país.
