Tuesday’s Sports

Apryl Rogers and Angel Cardello

NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs placed wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and backup center Daniel Kilgore on the reserve/COVID-19 list due to close contact. The roster moves mark the first coronavirus-related issues ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl. Five days of negative tests and they can play.

Two Tampa nurses born and raised in Kansas City will be cheering on the Super Bowl’s Chiefs for free. They were two out of thousands of health care workers selected for free tickets by the NFL. They’ll be a limited number of fans at Raymond James Stadium for the big game due to COVID-19, but one thing for sure Apryl Rogers and Angel Cardello will be inside. The lifelong friends might be working in Tampa, but red and gold run through these Kansas City natives’ veins.

It was just last week that we announced Jason Witten, 38, would sign up for one day to retire as a Dallas Cowboy player. After retiring from the NFL, we now know that Witten, 38, will be joining the Liberty Christian coaching staff as the head football coach. The longtime Cowboy’s tight end spent his final season with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020 and told ESPN last week that he was walking away “knowing that for 17 seasons, I gave it my absolute all.” Liberty Christian is a private school located about 30 miles north of Fort Worth and competes in Division I of TAPPS.

MLB

After the Major League Baseball Players Association rejected a proposal by MLB to delay the season, the league said it would start spring training and the regular season. MLB on Friday proposed a 154-game schedule that would pay the players for 162 games and pause their arrivals to camp until March 22 and the first games until April 28. The offer included expanding the playoffs from 10 to 14 teams and implementing the National League’s designated hitter.
