NFL

A country-flavored national anthem, a maze of a halftime show, and a smiling Tom Brady was holding a trophy after a 31-9 thumping of the Kansas City Chief. Add to that, Lori Locust and Maral Javadifar becoming the first female assistant coaches to win a Super Bowl, and Sarah Thomas, the first female officials to work a Super Bowl. If Patrick Mahomes’ team hadn’t brought their field goal kicker, Brady’s Tampa Bay team would have had a shutout.

The No. 10 Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball opened up a massive lead and cruised to a 67-49 win Saturday against Texas Women University.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s basketball team fought back from a first-half deficit to take the lead over 15th-ranked Dallas Baptist University early in the second half. Still, the Lions were unable to hold on, falling 80-69.

The No. 9 Texas A&M University-Commerce softball team closed out the Lion Invitational Saturday with a split, defeating Texas A&M International and falling to Arkansas Tech. The Lions were 6-0 winners over TAMIU, then lost 4-1 to ATU.

NTCC

Northeast Texas Community College softball returned home to NTCC to take on Cisco College after starting 2021 on the road. NTCC would down Cisco 14-5 in game one action before falling 10-1 in Game two.

Northeast Texas Community College took game one of the homestand Saturday, defeating Arkansas Rich Mountain 4-3 before falling in game two in a slugfest, 27-17. Both teams won two games each in the season-opening series.

HIGH SCHOOL

Lance Connot announced on his Facebook page that he had landed a job with a 4A school.  He has been the AD and Head Football Coach with Rivercrest and is originally a graduate of Paris.

Whitehouse’s Coach Marcus Gold is headed for Wylie ISD to be the head football coach. Arriving at Whitehouse in 2018 as the defensive coordinator before becoming head coach and now owns an 8-3 record for 2020.

SOFTBALL

Sulphur Springs didn’t leave any runs for McKinney North during their scrimmage last Friday. It was Lady Cats 12, McKinney North 0. Meanwhile, the guys nailed down the second seed in district basketball with a 74-68 win over Texas High.
