Jon Rahm won the U.S. Open on Sunday at Torrey Pines. One-shot behind and running out of holes, Rahm made a sweeping, left-to-right birdie putt from 25 feet on the 17th hole to tie for the lead and closed with another bending 18-foot birdie putt that gave him a one-shot victory.

The Texas A&M Aggies have made a massive addition to their coaching staff, according to D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers. The Aggies are hiring an LSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Nolan Cain. He has spent the past five seasons with the Tigers and recently had the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation that included Tre’ Morgan and Dylan Crews. In addition, they ranked three of his past four recruiting classes in the top five. Cain was a former LSU pitcher and promoted to assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in November 2016. Cain also serves as the third-base and outfielders coach.


Jeffery Moore, a member of the Paris Baseball Chapter and a native of Paris, was recently selected to serve as a World Series Umpire for the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball Division I AA World Series in Laurel, Mississippi. The Paris native was one of ten umpires selected for this event. It will take place August 7-11. Wes Skelton, State Director of Texas, recommended Moore, the DYB Umpire Committee approved him, and the Commissioner of Dixie Youth Baseball, Inc. “Jeffery Moore was selected based on his experience and demonstrated abilities as an umpire. In addition, Moore’s commitment to youth baseball and his professional conduct on the field has earned him the honor of this assignment,” said William Wade, Commissioner of Dixie Youth Baseball, Inc.

It started with seven teams in the 12U Dixie Youth District Tournament this past weekend, and now three remain. Winnsboro will take on Lamar County in the semi-finals at 6:00 pm, with the winner facing Franklin County for the District 5 title at 8;00 pm at the Franklin County Sports Complex.

In the 10U Dixie Youth Baseball Division, after seven teams, it now comes down to undefeated Delta County facing Franklin County at 6:00 pm for the District 5 Championship. A win for Franklin County would force a winner-take-all contest at 8:00 pm.


In UIL Golf, McGregor’s Maggie Parmer totaled 160 for third, Pottsboro’s Alli Reily had 155 for second place, and first place in 3A Individual finals was Chapel Hill Mt Pleasant’s Katie Hart with 154.
