MPHS Students Take Top Honors

MPHS Students Take Top Honors at UIL Academic Meets

Several Mount Pleasant High School Academic UIL teams competed in meets at Rains and North Lamar High Schools last weekend and brought home medals.

The Current Events and Spelling teams traveled to Rains, and both sides brought home first-place medals. In Current Events, Enrique Martinez took first-place, and Javi Martinez took second-place. In the Spelling contest, Rocio Hernandez placed-first, Annie Le placed-second, Mari Vargas earned fourth, Itzel Vargas took fifth, and Ilse Vargas placed sixth.

The Math/Science teams competed in the Math/Science Meet at North Lamar and placed second in Sweepstakes behind Garland High School. The MPHS team took 1st place in Calculator Applications with 630 points (to Garland’s 602), Math with 772 (to Garland’s 548) and Science with 384 points (to Garland’s 258). Garland outscored in MPHS Number Sense which gave them the 1st place Sweepstakes Award.

10th Grade – Grace Whitten 3rd
9th Grade – Patricia Roque 5th

12th Grade – Pornphiphat Saiboonchan 1st, Nathon Segovia 3rd, and Orlando Olivares 4th
11th Grade – Jose Liera 1st, David Barboza 2nd

The Math/Science teams compete next at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association State Meet in San Antonio during Spring Break. The Cross-Examination Team will be at the CX State Meet in Austin also during Spring Break. The District Meet is at Hallsville High School March 23-24.
