MPHS FFA students advance to the area contest

The Mount Pleasant chapter of FFA competed at the Paris District Leadership Development Event (LDE) held at Northeast Texas Community College on Friday, November 6.

The Ag Skills team of senior MaKayla Houchin, juniors Sam Brown and Sara Phillips, and sophomore Ethan Easley took 1st place and advanced to the next round. In Ag Skills, a team of 3-5 members performs an actual demonstration of an agricultural skill using effective public speaking and communication methods. The MPHS team demonstrated how to secure a tractor to a trailer for safe transportation. The students described how weight distribution and placement of the tractor play roles in safety. The students also explained the necessary tools used to complete the job.

“Having a team advance to the area is a huge accomplishment due to the strong competition in our area,” said Blake Rice, MPHS Ag Science Coordinator. “We are extremely proud of our team and the work they put forth.”

The area competition will be held in Marshall at Texas State Technical College on November 19.
