MPHS National Honor Society organizes food drive
The members of the National Honor Society (NHS) at Mount Pleasant High School held a food drive in conjunction with Communities in Schools (CIS). Their original goal was to provide enough food for twelve families. In the end, MPHS NHS members were able to create seventeen baskets shared with families who have students at MPHS. They gave each of the seventeen families a laundry basket full of canned vegetables, canned beans, boxed potatoes and pasta, boxed stuffing mix, bagged beans and rice, and numerous other items. Each basket also had a bag of sugar, a bag of flour, and a turkey. CIS identified the families and will assist with delivery.
“Last year we provided for seven families,” said MPHS NHS Advisor, David Clark. We were very excited about the amount of food we collected this year. Our original goal was 12 families, but CIS Coordinator, Claribel Banda, challenged us to provide for 17, and the students blew the challenge away.”
